NOMOS is one of the world’s most beloved watchmakers. The brand started its journey in January 1990, and today, the brand is operated by 260 passionate and dedicated watchmakers in Germany. The watch is famous for its strong values, in-house movements, and contemporary designs. Despite being younger than its neighbors in Glashütte, NOMOS has a substantial impact on the watchmaking industry. NOMOS takes a modern and minimalist approach with sans-serif fonts, clean dials, and often moderately sized cases.
Most of the NOMOS watch designs are handcrafted and come in an affordable price range. The brand’s first collection includes the Ludwig, Orion, Tetra, and Tangente timepieces that featured the same award-winning minimalist designs. The designs were inspired by Bauhaus, well-known for creative, unconventional ideas. Initially, NOMOS used Swiss ETA movements. By 2005, they introduced in-house movements, beginning with self-winding Epsilon inside the Tangomat. At this time, the brand joined hands with the legendary Glashütte watchmakers to produce their watches in Glashütte.
In 2014, NOMOS developed their own escapement called the NOMOS Swing System. They launched this escapement within the NOMOS Metro, crafted by Berlin-based designer Mark Braun. The brand won many awards, including Good Design Award, Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, iF Product Design Award, Chrono Award, Red Dot Award, Goldene Unruh, Green Product Award, and several others.
The brand has 13 in-house calibers available at prices that don’t break the bank. You can get a reliable timepiece with clean designs at competitive prices. The brand stays away from the luxury term and doesn’t make presentation boxes either. Instead, the watch comes in simple leather carrying cases. NOMOS’s collections cater to a variety of tastes.
