Understanding Skeleton Watches
A skeleton watch is a mechanical timepiece that exposes all its moving parts. These components can be viewed through the watch’s front, back, or a small opening around the dial. True skeletonization involves the removal of unnecessary metal from parts such as the bridge, plate, and wheel train to create a minimalist and functional movement structure. The remaining thinned movement is often adorned with engravings for added aesthetic appeal. Some skeleton watches also feature a dial face that allows users to see through to the inner workings of the watch.
The “semi-skeleton” design and the “open heart” design are two ways to showcase the movement of a watch without significant alterations. The semi-skeleton design presents a partially cutaway watch face that provides a glimpse of the inner workings of the movement. On the other hand, the open heart design incorporates a circular window, usually strategically positioned to display the oscillation of the balance wheel – often referred to as the “beating heart” of a timepiece. The open heart design is particularly popular on watches with tourbillon complications, as it serves as an excellent platform to highlight exceptional craftsmanship in watchmaking. These designs offer enthusiasts and admirers an opportunity to appreciate and marvel at this art form.

The Dial
This exquisite timepiece comes with an engraved skeleton dial. Clearly, this is where the Tufina watchmakers showcased their creativity. This simple feature helps distinguish between lower and higher quality skeleton watches. In essence, engraving encompasses the process of crafting a visual depiction or representation by carving a raised or incised design. Typically, engraving is predominantly found on top-notch mechanisms. Considering the fine details of this watch, the well-cut pieces, and the fine lines, you can discern the amount of work and effort invested in creating Venezia. Small rectangular golden markers complement the blue case, creating a pleasing color composition. Two slender blue hands glide over the dial, matching the watch’s elegant aesthetic.
The Case
The polished case boasts a vibrant blue color. Crafted from high-grade stainless steel, this construction offers remarkable durability while maintaining a lightweight feel for optimal comfort. The polishing work was executed exceptionally well, with no sharp or uneven edges anywhere on the case. The crown matches the lively blue color, featuring a rugged edge that provides a secure grip for easy time adjustment. The letter “T” for Theorema is engraved on the crown, a delightful touch that once again showcases the meticulous attention to detail invested in creating this timepiece. Clearly, Tufina did not take any shortcuts.

The Movement
Venezia is powered by an adjusted in-house mechanical movement. Personally, I have a deep appreciation for mechanical timepieces, a movement that is sometimes underappreciated but remains a staple choice for many high-end luxury watchmakers. These high grade mechanical watches are reliable, durable, and long lasting. Crafting this specific movement requires a great deal of work, patience, precision, and immense practice. Tufina has proudly chosen to follow this path, reflecting their deep appreciation and love for handcrafted timepieces. Through a meticulous hand-assembly process and four different steps of testing. This fact alone adds significant value in terms of mechanical craftsmanship.

The Feel
Venezia is a 44mm watch, leaning towards the larger scale. However, the elegant case shape and slight tapering of the lugs towards the bottom create an overall graceful appearance. I’m pleased to say that the watch does not appear bulky on my wrist. The well-polished edges ensure a comfortable fit, while the leather band feels quite sturdy taking the shape of my wrist. The feel of the leather against my skin is pleasant; it doesn’t cause any irritation, even after wearing the watch throughout the day. The clasp operates smoothly, securing the watch on my wrist at all times. Moreover, it features the Theorema logo engraved on it, yet another detail that highlights Tufina’s keen attention to detail.
The Look
A cream band paired with a blue case results in one of the most delightful color combinations. The blue case adds a pop of color to any outfit, yet thanks to the elegant design, it never appears overpowering. I find this to be an incredibly versatile watch. I’ve paired it with all-white outfits, and the result is striking. However, it also complements casual attire exceptionally well. The cream color tones down the overall look, while the skeleton dial speaks for itself. It’s the kind of watch that can serve as a standalone accessory, completing your outfit effortlessly.

Takeaway
In my opinion, this watch is undoubtedly a catch. Retailing for only $1,550, it offers an in-house mechanical movement, a skeletonized engraved dial, and a genuine leather band, making it one of the most affordable luxury watches on the market. For those who don’t know, every Tufina watch is made in Germany, so you’re not only getting a high-end timepiece but a German one at that. As we all know, German and Swiss watches are the most loved by watch enthusiasts worldwide. I would give this timepiece a 10 out of 10 in terms of quality, value, design, and authenticity.
